Basic Info
Name:Adam Monroe
Bio
Adam Monroe started out as a simple man with a simple wish. Like all men, especially from his age (the 17th century), he was keen on making his fortune. He was rather fond of the idea of starting somewhere new (since England wasn't the best of places for him...) and he went to the East. On his way to Japan, he fashioned a name for himself: Kensei. In Japanese, it translated to "Sword Saint", and such a name would prove intimidating to anyone who might challenge him. Upon arriving to Japan, he added more to his rouse. He began hiring men and had them dress in Samurai armor and ride a horse into villages proclaiming that they were the "fearsome ol' Kensei." Adam was a man who liked to work from behind. While the decoy held everyone's attention, he would take down the guards and steal a couple of purses.

Things changed in 1671 when Adam came upon an odd little fellow. The man wore strange clothing and a pair of spectacles, making him appear to be a monk or a doctor. The little man told Adam that he was Nakamura Hiro, a man from the future--he was also enamored with Adam, as Kensei, and was familiar with the supposed heroic exploits of Kensei. This amused Adam at first, in addition to being queer. At first, Hiro presents some problems for Adam, spouting about these heroic deeds he was supposed to fulfill. None of which he cared about, of course. His interests were in saffron and salt, gold, the things that really mattered in one's life.

Soon after meeting, they come the burning remnants of Otsu, the city that Kensei was supposed to be protecting. This doesn't bother Adam much as he is non the worse for wear. In Otsu, Adam is confronted by Yaeko, a swordsmith's daughter. He does not admit his lack of interest in protecting, but tells her that Hiro detained him from saving her village and her father from being kidnapped. For punishment of his lack of action, Yaeko takes his sword and leaves. Hiro begins again to spout about the stories of Kensei, but Adam punches him to shut him up so he can find some sake.

While Adam is busy with his alcohol (and rather drunk), Hiro steals his armor and goes to help Yaeko himself, as Kensei. Hiro's reasoning is that the people need to think that Takezo is a hero. Adam isn't too trusting of this, but then Yaeko comes to thank him and give him back his sword. Adam decides that listening to what Hiro says may be of some help to him; by completing the actions Hiro instructs him to, he could amass a great deal of wealth. He agrees to Hiro to turn him into a hero. Before they can make an action, they are ambushed, Yaeko is kidnapped, and Adam is shot and killed. Hiro, very distraught, removes the arrow from Adam's heart, and soon enough the wounds heal and Adam revives. Adam is instantly convinced that this is the work of the devil and believes Hiro is a servant of the devil. Adam flees.

Hiro cannot leave him alone, though. And after running away, Adam gained a bit of composure, and began testing this new found ability, seeing if it worked without Hiro being present. He tries cutting his arm. With every cut, the wound heals. Hiro begins trying to gain Adam's trust again by showing him his own power of teleportation. There's a positive aspect to his new ability, Hiro tells him: Adam now cannot be killed by any injury from a sword. This appeals to Adam's greed. With this power, he could be more rich than the Pope, even, and he'd be unstoppable. Next Hiro takes him to another event depicted in the stories. Kensei must get the fire scroll at a Japanese fortress. He must defeat 90 ronin to reach the scrolls. And the other thing? Adam must act alone, for Hiro teleports away.

As Adam is attempting this new task, Yaeko waits for him with Hiro. After some time, Adam comes by victorious, with the scroll in hand. Yaeko is very pleased and congratulates him as only one's lady love can.

Time passes and Hiro remains, guiding him through the exploits of Takezo Kensei. Hiro comes to Adam and tells him that he must go through his journey alone now because Hiro must return home. Adam does not like this and protests. He needs Hiro to help him be a hero still. But Hiro is afraid of changing time. Hiro begins to leave, but before he can get too far, he goes back.

The three go to Kiso Mountain close to where Whitebeard is encamped. Whitebeard has Yaeko's father in custody. The three find Yaeko's father. He is chained. While he has been held captive, he's been making guns for Whitebeard as a means to exchange for Yaeko's safety. Whitebeard has plans of overthrowing the Emperor. To save Japan, Hiro tells Adam that the guns must be destroyed. They are able to get Yaeko's father out, but are confronted by many of Whitebeard's men. Adam goes about killing all that come across him. Hiro and Yaeko disappear out of the skirmish and Adam is forced to confront all of Whitebeard's men.

Adam gets free and runs out of the encampment, to find Hiro and Yaeko. What he finds hurts him to the core. He sees Hiro and Yaeko kissing. He turns back and leaves the two alone, to return to Whitebeard. Hours later, Hiro finds him and Adam, brimming with a frenzied energy, tells Hiro what he saw. Adam does not accept Hiro's petty apologies and knocks him out, allowing Whitebeard to take Hiro. They have already taken Yaeko and her father.

In Whitebeard's camp, Adam personally holds the three captive. He's taken care of stopping Hiro's ability by giving him opium. With Hiro in Whitebeard's custody, he can have anything he wants. Adam has requested for half of Japan and Yaeko as his princess. But she doesn't want him and admits her love for Hiro.

While Adam is away, Yaeko frees herself and removes the opium from Hiro. The two are successful with their escape. Hiro continues with the plan of destroying Whitebeard's guns. While he is setting fire to the tent, Adam confronts him. The two fight. Hiro is able to disarm Adam. Then he offers to Adam to teleport him out, but he refuses. He does tell Hiro something that will Hiro will live to regret much later: As long as I have breath, anything you love I will lay to waste. I swear... You will suffer." Hiro teleports himself out just as the tent explodes.

For the years that followed, Adam continued some things as he had before: focusing on gaining wealth. Now, he was more interested in retaining it. He had three centuries before he would be seeing Nakamura Hiro again. There was a great deal of time to plot. One part of his plotting was following the Nakamura lineage.

In the 20th century, it became apparent to him that there were many people like him now. One person in particular, Nakamura Kaito, interested him greatly. And like his enemy from years past, Kaito exhibited an ability. Another person who interested Adam was a young man by the name of Daniel Linderman. Young, optimistic, and eager to help the world. Not only this, but Daniel possessed the ability to heal all living things. Adam took Daniel on as a protege, teaching him not just the finer things in life, but also what was important. Theirs was a world in flux and it was by their hands that the world could be changed.

But Adam's plans fell through. Some of the others saw through some of his plots. He wasn't so much interested in changing the world as he was in helping himself. The ones who turned on him, especially Kaito, the father of his hated enemy, had him imprisoned, never to see the light of day. And so he dwells, occasionally finding conversation with other people who were also prisoners of the Company. Every day, though, he did have one bright spot to be found: a frequent visitor by the name of Elle. She was Bob's daughter and what a treat she could be.

Powers: Adam possesses the ability of regeneration. He can be killed by any manner of speaking (though possibly not decapitation), and come back to life once he has healed. He can regrow limbs and toes and digits if necessary. His blood also contains healing properties. Just a small amount of blood will heal almost any amount of damage a person has experienced.

Personality: Rather shifty. He's thinking for himself and himself only. But he will tell anyone, supposed confidant, friend, foe, sweet words of what they need to hear in order for him to achieve what he wants. He only wants for himself and nothing for others. He is a very bitter man, having lost his heart centuries ago. He has built over three hundred years of hatred for the one man who decimated any shot he had at real happiness. This hatred is all consuming and can make him short-sighted of things.
